Their Story

The Massin family have been on the same ground at Ville-sur-Arce since 1865, when Louis-Aristide Massin planted the first vines. The house as it exists today was founded in 1974, and the fifth generation now works the land. This is the Côte des Bar — the southern tip of Champagne, closer to Chablis than to Reims — where Kimmeridgian limestone under clay gives Pinot Noir a weight and salinity it finds nowhere else in the region.

Heritage & Terroir

Massin are members of the Club Trésors de Champagne, which means two Spécial Club millésimes released only in the strongest years and only after a blind tasting by the other members. Their range runs to twelve cuvées, from a straightforward Brut Tradition to the solera-drawn Louis-Aristide, which has been fed by every harvest since 1995.

Philosophy

No herbicides since 2000 and certified under Viticulture Durable en Champagne. Long ageing throughout — three years on the lees is the entry point, five for the vintages — and dosage kept low enough that the limestone comes through unimpeded.
